Extractions, Orthodontics and TMD

Dr. Brown explains the movement of teeth and cranial bones post molar extractions. Although sometimes molar extraction is necessary, it is very important to figure out if you have an underlying TMJ/TMD problem first. Molars help stabilize the jaw joints and if they are removed, it can cause collapse in the back teeth. This at times makes TMD, TMJ, Sleep Apnea and Orthodontic problems worse. With our patients we use ALF appliance to help stabilize the teeth and jaw joints so the posterior (back) teeth stay in place to support the jaw.
