Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is classified as a complex neurodevelopment disorder affecting three main domains, which include impaired social interaction, impaired communication skills as well as sensorimotor deficits combined with stereotyped and restricted behaviours. The oral health care of clients with ASD may present a number of challenges, not least two different operating systems trying their best to interface, with, on occasion, frustrating outcomes.
This lecture aims to provide a broader understanding of individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their clinical dental management.
Presenter: Andrew Lee, Associate Professor of Preventative and Special Needs Dentistry, College of Medicine and Dentistry, James Cook University
